China’s Personal Information Protection Law

Officially approved in 2021, PIPL has already gone through several revisions to reach the current milestone.

The biggest highlight of this law in relation to the previous ones is the fact that it is the first specific regulation for data processing, with stricter requirements that are well-aligned with ethical and moral issues, such as unfair competition with the use of data, for example.

This is because one of the goals of the Law is to prevent the monopoly of companies, which, according to the spokesperson for the Chinese National People’s Congress, are using algorithms and big data tools to set unfair prices.
